One of the most far reaching events in the cattle industry in 2011 was the major drought that held much of the southwest cattle industry in its grip. Driving the length of the state, there are areas that have obviously gotten some moisture with welcome green patches while others are nothing but dirt and cow pies. The noticeable difference is the lack of cows on the land. It is almost impossible to estimate the devastation to the industry, let alone the individuals hit by the disaster but our next issue of CALF will give you a glimpse of the depth of these problems.
